Have you ever thought about the purposes of sex? I'm sure you have to some degree, but have you considered that sex is to be to the glory of God? This runs contrary to culture and our desires.
SIN HAS TURNED SEX INTO SERVICE FOR
SELF
The human attempt is to make sex pleasurable without God. When
you look at porn, masturbate, flirt, or engage in other sexual activity, you
are attempting to make the God-given purpose of sex serve you. No perverted
version of sex will ultimately be more pleasurable than God’s version, for sexuality
is not for the service of self, but to ultimately serve your spouse. Pleasure,
ironically, comes through service to another. The lie of our culture is that
sexual pleasure lies in being served, but the way God has designed sex, is that
pleasure is in the service of another.
GRACE TURNS SEX FROM SERVICE OF SELF
TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND SERVICE OF SPOUSE
Did you know that sex in its rightful place
brings delight to God? Sex is a gift from God to the married man and woman,
and:
· Sex is a gift from God and is to be enjoyed
only in the context of the marriage between a man and a woman.
· It is for Procreation (having
children)
· It is for Pleasure
- Pleasure
should only come from one’s spouse.
· It is for giving, not getting.
- Sex is
not different than any other aspect of the Christian life.
- It is
still about loving God and loving others.
Rather than using sex to the service of self, use sex for the service of your spouse and the glory of God. What we need to do is to teach our children the rightful purposes of sex, and to to be living these truths our in our marriages. If you have been using sex for the service of yourself rather than your spouse, repent, confess, and commit to serving and loving your spouse and the Lord better.
